A Few Ways To Measure Progress
There are several benefits for doing well on class tests, pop quizzes, course exams, and standardized tests, as they all are essential for your preparation for postsecondary success. Whether you have plans to go directly to college or career school, head straight to the world of work, or enlist in a service academy, knowing how well you are doing based on your assessment scores is important. In addition, your teachers are excited to know how strong your comprehension skills are and how quickly you’re able to apply new information and grasp new concepts.
There are several ways to see how you are progressing in courses and from grade to grade. From asking you general to more specific questions, to listening to your answers and explanations, your voice is being heard, and your teachers are taking note. School Counselors can learn more about you during your in-class discussions and when observing you participate in an individual or during a group presentation. When carefully evaluating graded assignments, quizzes, tests, and exams, school principals are also able to see how well you and your classmates are doing in specific subject areas and/or course assignments.
There are some tests, exams, and assessments that you and all of the students in your school will take every quarter, semester and even every year. Speaking of assessments, the results on your “standardized tests” not only show your strengths, they also show areas where you may need extra support. In addition, some standardized tests, like college admissions tests, including the PSAT, SAT, ACT, ASVAB, and AP Exams, allow for colleges, career schools, and scholarship providers, yes, you heard right, all the above, to make comparisons across your school’s network, the district, the state of Maryland, and the nation.
