Message from the CEO
Dear Students and Families,
Before you know it, high school graduation will be here – and every graduating senior will begin preparing for the next big step in his or her life.
Whether it’s to a four-year college or university, attending a two-year program, heading straight into that dream job or career, or enlisting in the armed services, each new graduate needs to start planning now how to answer the “What do I want to be when I am out in the world?” question.
This toolkit contains information, resources, and tools to assist with proper planning toward college and career readiness and is woven into the 7 Key Practices for Student Success outlined, in brief, as follows: how to develop your aspirations; how to build a rigorous academic foundation; how to navigate through the college admission and financial aid processes; how to build your social network; how to cultivate the knowledge and skills necessary to transition from high school and onto postsecondary success; how to maintain a comprehensive support system that leads to academic success and workplace readiness; and how to foster self-persistence in order to successfully complete a postsecondary education program.
Our hope is that you’ll use the toolkit all throughout high school as a way to help keep track of what is essential in preparing for life after high school. We challenge students, in their final year of high school, to ask him/herself the one critically important question, “Am I doing everything I can to get ready for my next big step?” With global technology constantly on the rise and with fewer options left for those ill-prepared to compete in a highly competitive workforce, the more opportunities you provide yourself toward reaching your goals, the better your dreams (and life!) will be for tomorrow.
All of us here at City Schools would like to wish you tremendous success and are always here to help – with your high school needs as well as for strategic planning in the years beyond!
